Reasons to Choose Dental Implants to Replace Lost Natural Teeth

Dental implants are one of the options available to individuals who are looking to replace lost natural teeth. This option is the only tooth replacement option that also replaces the lost roots. This is an important detail since people who have lost a tooth often find themselves dealing with jawbone tissue loss due to the area not getting the stimulation it needs to remain healthy. The roots of a tooth are responsible for keeping the jaw stimulated as needed. Thankfully, dental implants can fulfill this role, while also serving as a base for an artificial tooth.

Why consider dental implants for missing teeth

A dental implant is a lot like a real tooth, instead, there are many components. The dental implant is placed in the jaw, just like a real tooth's root is, and an implant crown sits above it just like the top of a real tooth would. Dental implants are sturdy prosthetics that are typically made out of titanium, however, they can also be made from other materials like zirconium. Here are some of the reasons to consider getting dental implants over other replacement options.

1. Preserves bone tissues loss

Bone tissues work similarly to the way muscle tissues work. They get stronger when regularly stimulated and they deteriorate when the stimulation stops. Living with missing teeth leads to bone tissues in the jaw breaking down and that can lead to a sunken look or wrinkles appearing around the mouth.

A dental implant goes into the patient's jaw and it is given up to six months for a process called osseointegration to take place. During this, the implant bonds with bone tissues around it, securing it in place, which then results in a stimulated, strong and restored jaw. As a result, those who go with implants do not have to worry about changes to their facial structures as a result of missing teeth.

2. Prevents misalignment of teeth

When a person loses a tooth, their remaining natural teeth might start moving towards the gap created by the missing tooth in an attempt to close it. That leads to misaligned teeth, which brings challenges of their own. For example, poorly aligned teeth are more difficult to clean than straight teeth, which makes a person more vulnerable to tooth decay and gum disease.

3. No special care required

Teeth replacement options like dentures often come with tiring cleaning needs. Dentures need to be carefully cleaned with a toothbrush daily, then soaked in denture solution overnight. The wearer then still has to complete their oral hygiene routine.

There are no special cleaning requirements with dental implants. Taking care of them is just as easy as taking care of real teeth. Brushing and flossing are all that is required to keep implants in excellent condition.

4. Long-lasting

Dental implants provide a permanent solution for missing teeth that should last the rest of the patient's life. The crown attached to the implant can last over 25 years with good oral hygiene.
